About this camp

The IMA-MathCEP Math Modeling Camp offers high school students a week-long, in-person experience to apply mathematical skills to real-world problems. Participants collaborate in groups of 3-4 to develop mathematical models to analyze issues such as traffic effects, population trends, disease spread, and climate impact on natural resources. The camp emphasizes hands-on, data-driven problem-solving and culminates in students presenting their findings to peers and faculty. Students gain skills in mathematical modeling, data analysis, collaborative problem-solving, and scientific communication. The program aims to expose students to the creative and discovery-driven side of mathematics and encourage them to pursue further studies in the field.

What a typical day looks like

Students are expected to be on campus from approximately 9am-3:30pm each day, engaging in activities that involve learning about mathematical modeling, working in groups on projects, exploring data, and developing solutions.

Best suited for

This camp is ideal for high school students who have completed a year-long course in single variable calculus and are enthusiastic about applying mathematical concepts to solve real-world problems in a collaborative environment.
