Dr. Xue's Math School offers a Pre-College Research Program for high school students, focusing on open-ended team research projects in applied mathematics, computational biology, or data science. The program is inspired by Dr. Xue's NSF Career Award and her experience as a research project mentor for gifted high school students. Students will engage in a 10-session program that includes project introduction, project training, team research, summary writing, and presentations. Participants will learn new math and science concepts, develop critical thinking skills, cultivate proper research attitudes and habits, and learn rigorous research methods. The program culminates in student presentations, with opportunities to present at local science fairs. Based on performance, students may be recommended to continue research with an external mentor through the Research Connect Program.
A typical summer day includes a daily group meeting from 11 AM to 1 PM CST, with students expected to dedicate at least 6 additional hours between sessions to collaborate on their projects.
This program is ideal for highly self-driven high school students with a genuine curiosity and interest in research, who have completed Precalculus and are proficient in Python, Java, or C++.
